Child Visitor Visa

A child Visitor Visa allows someone under the age of 18 to the UK, to visit/ family or be educated. This type of visa falls under the Standard visitor visa category and is valid for up to six months.

Application

If you (or your child) are applying in this category you must be able to provide that you have suitable accommodation and care during your stay. You must also provide that you have a partner or guardian in your home country who is otherwise reasonable for your well-being.

Successful applicants can stay in the UK for up to six months per visit. They may enter the UK multiple times during this period. There is no specific limit on the number of visits allowed. However, they must not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent visits. Continuous residence with short absences is also not permitted. Visa nationals need entry clearance to visit the UK.

Conditions of Leave

Applicants will have the following conditions attached to their leave: 

  • No recourse to public funds;
  • Intend to leave UK after the end of your stay;
  • No intention to work; or produce goods or study (unless a student visitor).

Biometric Requirements

Biometric Residence Permit

Foreign nationals from outside the EEA must apply for a biometric residence permit when making certain applications to the Home Office. This requirement covers both postal and in-person (premium) applications. The permit contains a migrant’s biographic details, biometric information, immigration status, and entitlements in the UK.

Enrollment Process

Meanwhile, applicants who wish to extend their stay in the UK by post, the Home Office will send them a letter asking them to enrol their biometrics after the Home Office have received their application. Applicants will be able to enrol their biometric information one of the Post Offices offering this service across the UK using their walk-in service.

Processing time

In line with the Home Office service standards for processing UK visa applications, they decide 90 per cent of the applications within 3 weeks, 98 per cent within 6 weeks and 100 per cent within 12 weeks of the application date.

Applicants apply for the Same Day at one of Public Enquiry Office (PEO) in the UK; the application is normally decided on the same day.
